Pelonas
Approximately one in three women will experience alopecia at some point in their lives. Yet their faces remain invisible in the collective imagination, overshadowed by the normalization of male baldness. In silence, many of them are forced to hide under wigs, reshaping their identity to avoid intrusive stares, inappropriate comments, and hasty judgments.
Pelonas is a photographic project that delves into the intimate lives of bald women, portrayed in the serenity of their homes, far from the noise of the outside world. In these refuges, everyday objects — scarves, wigs, razors, combs — are transformed into symbols of resistance, identity, and beauty.
This project invites us to see with new eyes. To pause and recognize the beauty that is born of truth, the strength that emerges from vulnerability. Through intimate portraits and everyday scenes, Pelonas seeks to dismantle the prejudices surrounding hair loss and to celebrate the beauty and resilience of these remarkable women.
By sharing their stories, these women inspire us to reconcile with our own image, to embrace who we are, and to discover that beauty, in its purest form, resides in authenticity.
